The Hall family has a long history in the trucking industry. In 1942 Karl Hall took two dump trucks as pay for work he had done and this gave him a boost on his way.
In
1949, Hall Trucking began transporting TV sets made in a local factory to
Chicago, Illinois. At that time the trucking industry, was regulated and Hall
Trucking could not obtain authority and became an independent carrier. In
1951 Hall Trucking Inc. began a 31 year relationship with Commercial Motor
Freight of Indiana as a agent. Karl expected his sons to learn the industry
and they were expected to work at an early age. After the death of Karl Hall
in 1975, his sons Frank and JC Hall operated the business. Hall Trucking filed
for its own authority and became a common carrier. In the next several years
its operation was expanded into Ohio and Kentucky. In 1992 Hall Trucking Co.
Inc. authority was sold to Dayton Freight Lines.
In 1970, Frank graduated
from Tri State College, in Angola, Indiana, with a degree in business administration
majoring in transportation. Upon graduation, Frank was hired by Roadway Express
and was in one of their last management training programs for college graduates.
He received valuable training at Roadway in
Chicago Heights, Illinois. In 1972 Frank and his wife Beth returned to Orleans
with their twin sons, Todd and Chad. Frank began working with his dad who
was ill with cancer at the time. In 1977 Frank and Beth were blessed with
a baby girl Nicole.
In 1969 JC graduated from high school. Following 1 1/2 years of college, JC decided he would like to drive a truck. He took a job driving to Florida hauling melons and other produce. In 1972 he went to work at Roadway Express in Chicago. When his father's illness progressed, he returned to Hall Trucking to work. JC and his wife Norma had two daughters, Shannon and Kimberly.
In 1979,
Hall Bros. Transportation Co. Inc. was formed when Ford Motor Company opened
a plant in Bedford, Indiana. Ford needed a truckload carrier who could deliver
to its plants on a "Just In Time" schedule. Frank and JC grew up
learning that service was what they had to sell. For the next 20 years, Hall
Bros. became the house carrier for the Bedford Ford Plant. In 1995, JC was
ready to sell his share of Hall Bros. to Frank. At an early age Frank’s
sons, Todd and Chad, began learning the truc
king
industry. Along with their dad and uncle they had many good co-workers as
teachers and have learned the LTL and truckload business. They are now 32
years old and with years of experience they are being prepared to be the next
generation of Hall Bros.
Chad is married to Jennifer and is the father of two sons, Cale and Chase, and of a little girl Jenna. Todd is married to Andrea and is the father of a little boy Tate and a little girl on the way. Nikki is married to Brandon Deckard and they have a son Griffin and a daughter Anna. As of 2003, Hall Bros. Transportation has a third generation waiting patiently in the wings ready to carry on.
